One Coppell Mini Conference: Meeting Neighbors, Sharing Perspectives

On March 7th, Coppell residents did something that's becoming a bit of a habit: they showed up, sat down with people they didn't know, and talked. Not small talk — real conversation about what makes this community worth building together.

The One Coppell Mini Conference brought neighbors together for a day of hands-on activities designed to spark genuine connection, sessions built specifically for adults and for high school students in grades 9–12, and a Together We Dine community meal and dialogue that put the whole day's spirit into practice. This year, the Mini Conference also joined forces with Kaleidoscope 2026, layering a learning and dialogue component onto the cultural celebration and entertainment already underway.

A recurring thread ran through the day's sessions: listening. Attendees worked through practical frameworks for paying closer attention to the people around them — one participant walked away repeating a simple phrase from the day's speaker, W.A.I.T. ("Why Am I Talking?"), as a reminder to listen more and talk less. Others spoke about "awe" as a lens for noticing the people and moments right in front of them. It's simple in concept and, as always, harder in practice — which is exactly why the table made space for it.

Participants came as longtime residents and brand-new neighbors, city staff and first-time attendees, and left having done the thing Coppell keeps asking of its Mini Conferences: shown up, listened, and connected across difference.

This kind of gathering is part of the quieter, ongoing work behind One Coppell — building the everyday fabric of a community where people of every age, background, and tenure in the city feel like they belong. The Vision 2040 Strategic Plan calls for a Coppell where every resident has a seat at the table. Events like the Mini Conference are where that vision gets practiced, one conversation at a time.
